The KOALA BEAR is unique to Australia.  It is not a member of the bear family, however it is a marsupial (carries its young in its pouch).  Koalas have two thumbs on each of their paws which helps them to hold on tight to even the most slippery branches, while its dense fur shields it from the rain.  Koalas generally sleep during the day and become more active at night, feeding on gum leaves.
